THE ARTIST BEHIND IBIZA BEAMS & DESIGN
Hi. I’m Luke, the artist and craftsman behind Ibiza Beams & Design.
I grew up around this craft, learning from my father from a young age. I’ve always liked creating things, whether that’s been making music or working with my hands. I suppose I’ve always been drawn to starting with nothing and seeing where it goes.
It’s much the same with the beams. I work by eye and let each one develop as I go. There’s no pattern to follow and no two are ever the same. That’s what keeps the work interesting.
Ibiza Beams comes from a family craft that began more than 30 years ago, when my father started creating hand-carved mock beams in the UK.
My brother and I grew up around the trade, learning directly from him. He taught us the whole process — from building the structures and working with specialist plaster to carving, ageing and colouring every beam by hand. It’s a craft that takes years to learn and one that has been passed down through our family.
At the heart of what we do is art. We don’t manufacture beams; we sculpt them. There are no moulds and no two beams are ever exactly the same.
I’ve spent more than 20 years working within the building industry, giving me a deep understanding of how our work needs to sit within the architecture of a property. That experience, combined with the artistic craft passed down from my father, is behind everything we create today.
My brother and I went on to continue the family business in the UK as Tudor Beams, specialising in hand-carved plaster beams and developing the craft our father taught us.
After moving to Ibiza, I wanted to continue that story here. Ibiza Beams was created as the sister company to Tudor Beams, bringing our family craft to homes and projects in Balearic Islands and across Europe.
More than 30 years on, it’s still a family craft — just with a new home in Ibiza.
